These are tough and tragic times for our world, country, state and city. I say “our” because we are truly all in this together. It’s been almost three weeks since my family has been “staying at home” (other than my partner, an essential worker) and the order feels more like a prescription than a punishment. I know those feelings seem strange and I definitely fall into the unpopular opinion on this, but we are happy being homebound. My family has regrouped…we’ve reconnected, and I find myself refocused on what truly matters. Perhaps I’ve been a hot mess for so long now, I fully anticipate lemons with my lemonade, I can’t really say… but here are some of the reasons why I think my...
I am sure you are reading this while sitting inside of your home, probably hiding from your family members or maybe even dreading tomorrow and all of its boredom. We are all feeling very isolated and anxious. This is not an ideal situation for anyone, and making the best of it is all we can do. We still need to practice self-care for our mental health, however, now the ways we seek that out might look a little different. The thing that matters most is taking care of ourselves to take care of those around us. I am determined to make this time count as time well spent. With all that’s happening, it’s more important now than ever to invest in our community. While our world has been, up to this point, selfish and isolated--judging people for simply asking for help when they can’t do it all has to change. We have to offer up help any way we can. Here are a few ways you can continue to support your neighbors in this time of social distancing and self-quarantine. Check-In Check-in on neighbors, family members, and friends via phone if you are not comfortable with seeing anyone in person. Get past the niceties and weather chat and have conversations about how that person is truly handling this. Some are okay with social distancing, but others may feel down...
Disclaimer :: We 100% understand the severity of the situation we are all facing. Here are six tips for talking to your kids about COVID-19, but while we are homebound, we know many of us mamas and kids alike are feeling a bit anxious and since some studies have shown that music can quell anxiety, we wanted to share this list with you today. It’s absolute madness surrounding us at the present moment, and I confess it has my anxiety through the roof at this point. Everywhere we turn, bad news is following us and a virus is plaguing us. We have been asked as a nation to keep social distance and to stay home, and it was announced on...
On Being a Wife My mother thrived on drama, so it stands to reason that this would overflow into her marriage. Anytime that there was a hint of a reason for her to fight, she used it. I was never witness to a healthy marriage while growing up, and to this day, I have to guess if I am doing marriage correctly. I have learned that you work through marriage, mainly on emotions, not manipulation. On Being a Mother I have shared some of my experiences with my mother HERE. She was mentally unhealthy, and as a child, I feared her. I never felt love from her (or towards anyone, for that matter), so I took the little attention she did give...
