Our House Shuts Down At 2pm

If you walk into our house at 2pm, there is silence.

And darkness.

And non-touchingness.

All of the little people are in their rooms, and Momma gets a break. We don’t schedule anything in the afternoons and avoid having anyone over.

I am a work from home / stay at home mom with four girls, all 4 and under. I adore them all and wouldn’t change our crazy for anything. I love their hugs and kisses, their sweet voices and curious minds.

But they touch me all. day. long.

And the questions – so. many. questions.

So Momma needs a break and Momma has made a break.

At 1:30, everyone gets a snack, drink, bottle … WHATEVER your age & stage dictates. At 1:45 you go potty / get a clean diaper (SO MANY DIAPERS), and get that one last drink of water I know you’ll ask for.

And at 1:55, everyone goes to her bed for rest time so that by 2:00, our house is shut down.

I take an hour (sometimes 2 if we get good naps!) and do whatever I want / need to do, NOT what THEY need me to do.

I don’t have to answer questions or trip over little people.

Whether I purge a cabinet that is driving me crazy, get a little work done, or binge watch junk tv, I take that hour to breathe, feel productive (or not!) and regroup for another afternoon filled with little ones who need me. I can be a better momma when I take just a few minutes for me.

I love this plan and will definitely implement it in the future! I’ve only got one almost 2-year old daughter now who thankfully still needs and takes her daily afternoon nap, but I can foresee needing this time once that nap is gone and another kid is in the mix. Thanks for sharing 🙂
