It’s safe to say that this summer has been a rough one for the Greater Baton Rouge area. With that in mind, we gladly welcome September, along with the hopes of less heat and absolutely no rain. We also welcome the start of Fall activities! We have gathered our favorite family-friendly events in the Baton Rouge area this month and featured them here on the monthly guide.
Sept. 2 : Cheer on the LSU Volleyball team as they play Connecticut at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Check the calendar for additional home game dates.
Sept. 2-4 : Take a day trip down to New Orleans for the Louisiana Seafood Festival happening all weekend at the City Park Fairgrounds.
Sept. 3 : Hands-On Happenings: Masking Tape Trees will give kids the chance to make masterpieces with masking tape and watercolors at the Louisiana Art and Science Museum.
Sept. 4 : Enjoy free admission during September First Free Sunday at the Louisiana Art & Science Museum, and $6 reduced admission to planetarium shows.
Sept. 8 : Visit the Baker Branch Library for Grandparent’s Day Story/Craft as we read The Hello, Goodbye Window by Norton Juster and make cards.
Sept. 10 : The LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens hosts Storytime at Burden, featuring an enchanting storytelling and crafts.
Sept. 10 : Get excited for this season’s first LSU Football home game at Tiger Stadium vs. Jacksonville State. Check the calendar for additional home game dates.
Sept. 13 : Zoo & Me Morning at BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo is designed for 3-5 year olds to experience animal encounters, art projects and more!
Sept. 16 : LSU Women’s Soccer faces Ole Miss at the LSU Soccer Stadium. Check the calendar for additional home game dates.
Sept. 19 : Jump into your jammies for Monday Movie Pajama Party featuring Zootopia at the Jones Creek Regional Library Branch.
Sept. 21 : Kids can create an Accordion Dog Make/Take at the Zachary Branch Library, for ages 4-11.
Sept. 24 : Doc’s Dash includes a 5K and 1 mile run, along with interactive fun for the entire family at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center
Sept. 24 : Join us for St. Jude’s Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer at North Boulevard Town Square to raise funds to support St. Jude’s mission.
Sept. 24 : Learn all about Children’s Garden Activities at the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens, for ages 6-10.
Sept. 26 : Make a fall photo with Easy Photo Frame Make & Take Craft at the River Center Branch Library, for ages 3-5.
Sept. 30 : Our LSU Volleyball team plays Texas A&M at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Check the calendar for additional home game dates.
Tuesdays and Thursdays : Art Stars promotes self-expression, teamwork and more twice a week at Greenwood Community Park.
Fridays : Bring the whole family out to Live After Five at North Boulevard Town Square. Visit the site for full lineup.
Saturdays : Miss Trudy’s Traveling Trunk Show explores the art of the seasons through stories, songs and games at the Louisiana Art & Science Museum.
Saturdays : Visit downtown Baton Rouge for the Red Stick Farmer’s Market to shop locally grown products and support local farmers.
Sundays : Sunday Movie Matinee at the Jones Creek Regional Library will offer a feature-length movie, punch and popcorn.
