As the beginning of spring, April really kicks off the wave of outdoor festivals and activities. We have gathered our favorite family-friendly events in the Baton Rouge area this month and featured them here on the monthly guide. Whether your days end up being sunny or rainy, we’ve got something for you!
April 2 : Visit the Louisiana Art & Science Museum for its third annual Engineering Day, featuring interactive stations showing a variety of engineering and design specialties.
April 2 : BioBlitz allows you to join BREC’s naturalists and local scientists at Forest Community Park to learn more about the diversity of life or “biodiversity.”
April 2, 3 : Watch professional kite flyers perform at Kite Fest Louisiane’ and enjoy kite making at the West Baton Rouge Soccer Complex.
April 3 : Yelp! Baton Rouge’s 4th Annual Block Party at BREC’s City-Brooks Park will have adoptable dogs, food, live music, prizes, blessing of the animals and more!
April 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 : Get to downtown and grab some local produce at the Red Stick Farmer’s Market. Walk along Main St. and be sure to stop by the kid’s booth for free tokens and activities.
April 9 : Enjoy art activities and demonstrations with Art in the Park at BREC’s City-Brooks Park.
April 9 : Stick Horse Rodeo gives kids ages 2-7 an opportunity to compete in rodeo events on stick horses at BREC’s Farr Park Equestrian Center.
April 11 : Kids ages 4-11 can hear Down in Louisiana by Johnette Downing, a famous Louisiana singer-songwriter, then participate in the Louisiana Alligator Make & Take Craft at the River Center Branch Library.
April 13 : Paper Bag Kites Story and Craft will allow kids ages 2-5 to listen to the story Kite Day by Will Hillenbrand then make their own kite at the Zachary Branch Library.
April 15 : Join LSU Kappa Alpha Theta for CASA Carnival, featuring jambalaya, carnival games and more! This event will support CASA’s advocacy efforts on behalf of abused children.
April 17 : Celebrate Louisiana Earth Day with exhibits, activities, food and music in Downtown Baton Rouge.
April 18 : The Jordan World Circus 2016 is coming to the Lamar Dixon Expo Center with its aerial acts and animal attractions.
April 23 : In honor of Diversity in Action day, kids ages 7-11 will learn about Libraries Around the World at the Jones Creek Branch Library by using excerpts from the book My Librarian is a Camel, learning about libraries in other countries, playing games and making a craft.
April 26 : St. Joseph’s Academy Spring Dance 2016 will showcase the dance program under Kris Cangelosi performing classical ballet, jazz and contemporary dance at the Manship Theatre.
April 30 : Support the nation’s oldest fundraising walk, March for Babies, at AZ Young Park downtown to honor healthy babies and those who need help to survive.
