Why I am Thankful for My Mom Group

When I was expecting my daughter in March of 2011, I began scouring the internet for information. I discovered the What to Expect When You’re Expecting site and the forums you could be part of based on your due date. Next thing I know, I am part of an online group for moms with babies due in March 2011. The big group was a little overwhelming for me. Over the next few months, we broke off into smaller groups of moms, and from that something wonderful happened! One mom created a small group of around 40 mamas and named us My BFF Mommies. This was over five years ago.

I know many moms have opinions on online mom groups or forums, but these ladies have been life savers, confidantes, and friends. We have laughed at silly jokes together, mourned a loss of a loved one, and watched our newborns grow into toddlers who turned into preschoolers overnight. They are who I go to first when I need parenting advice or to vent about the annoying thing that happened at work today. They offer an ear to listen and a heart of caring.

One of my favorite parts of being in this group is watching the kids grow up. The month of March is a month long celebration watching the kids have their own birthday parties. I’ve gotten to know mamas and kids from all over the nation – what their traditions are, how their families work, and their favorite holidays.

We are a unique, diverse group of women. We all have our own opinions and beliefs, but even when we disagree we all have respect for one another. I am thankful for each of these ladies in my Mom group. They have all supported me when I’ve needed them, given me a break from reality, and made me laugh in times of frustration. I am thankful I get to watch these kids grow (especially the babies born on the same day as my daughter). I’m excited to see what comes from the BFF Kiddies!

I want to encourage the pregnant mamas to get our of your comfort zone and reach out to to a mom group, whether it be online or here locally. If you can withstand the crazy posts in the beginning, you may just find a precious gem like I did. As moms, we need all the support we can get. For me that support group is found in My BFF Mommies for March 2011 Mommies.  I will forever be thankful for our friendships.

What mom groups are you a part of?

Tiffany
Tiffany is happily married to her high school sweetheart, Desmond. Together they get to play the roles of Mommy and Daddy to Micah, a gifted Math Wiz of a teenager who is always making people laugh, and Keilyn, a spunky, flower loving, dancing girl who will stop and talk to anyone she meets. She was born and raised in Baton Rouge and has Cajun blood running through her veins. She works full time outside of the home in business administration. She started the journey of motherhood young but wouldn’t have it any other way. Her children have taught her to laugh, play and that sometimes it’s ok not to have a plan! She has a passion for teenagers and is an active mentor in her church’s youth group. In her rare free time she enjoys shopping, coffee, and date nights with her husband. She believes that everyone has a story to tell and enjoys meeting new people, making people laugh, and spending time with friends and family.
