Stitch Fix vs Trunk Club {Either Way, New Clothes are a Win!}

**This post is not sponsored. All clothing box subscriptions were paid for with my own money.

For the better part of the last three years, most of my clothes have come from Target while shopping for things for my squirt. Or from the Gap, while also shopping for things for my squirt. And once or twice, I’ve bought work clothes from the Banana Republic that is next to the afore mentioned Gap. Then a fellow mom began singing the praises of Stitch Fix on Facebook, and I noticed more and more other mom friends, especially those who work, posting about this gem of an online shopping option.

The best part is that you don’t have to do the shopping! So, I signed up … for a $20 styling fee you can have a box of clothes shipped to your door.

Then, before my first box ever arrived, I learned about ANOTHER box to door shopping option called Trunk Club. Their styling fee is $25, but with both subscription services your styling fee can be credited toward your purchase.

So, in case you are as skeptical as I was about this whole ordeal, I am going to compare them for you and explain the process. Cause, let’s be honest, how could someone who doesn’t even know me pick out clothes that I like that FIT me, much less multiple items of clothes every month or so INCLUDING JEANS. Oh, but they did. They did.

Stitch Fix

First up, Stitch Fix! With Stitch Fix, you can schedule fixes as frequently or not as frequently as you would like. They recommend monthly, but I’m currently doing a quarterly option after two months of closet refreshing. You take a pretty intense style quiz as well as describe your shape … probably took about 5-10 minutes to fill out the survey. And this is the time to be honest. Like SUPER honest about your shape, which features you love, which features you DON’T, as well as your general style. Then your stylist assembles 5 items for you and you get a fun surprise box!

With Stitch Fix, you don’t interact with your stylist directly ahead of the fix, and you don’t see what you are getting until the box ships. Out of four fixes, I have kept 12 items. Including jeans that are AMAZING. I appreciate that my stylist helped me expand on styles, and you get to give loads of feedback as well as “what you want in your next fix.”

Bonus with Stitch Fix, in addition to getting the $20 styling fee credited back to your purchase, you also receive a 25% overall discount if you keep all 5 items. This usually means at least one item is free!

Trunk Club

On to Trunk Club! This service is a product of the Nordstrom brand and has some distinct differences (some good, some bad). First off, the $25 styling fee is credited to whatever you purchase, but there is no incentive to keep the whole box or majority of items. The trunk comes with 7-10 pieces of clothing, and all pieces are intended to work together to create an ultra mini capsule wardrobe.

One of the perks, in my opinion, is that you get to have extensive conversation with your personal stylist ahead of time AND you get to see the items your stylist has picked for you. Trunk Club also gives you the option to remove things from your trunk and let your stylist replace them with whatever he may chose. I kind of love this, because I saved myself the heartache of receiving any “cold shoulder” tops that just don’t jive on me, while making myself try a few new things!

And even though Trunk Club is a Nordstrom brand, you can pick your price points so you don’t have to go high scale if you don’t want to. Out of two trunks, I have kept 5-8 items (currently sitting in a full outfit that arrived in my trunk today …). Again, unbelievably they have sent jeans that FIT and look AMAZING.

Both services also provide all of the shipping materials for returns in your respective boxes AND returns are FREE.

Which Will I Choose?

All in all, I think I will keep up with both services and use them every 3-4 months for a little refresh on the wardrobe. I appreciate that with both boxes I expand my style and brands; I can control the price point; and I don’t have to leave my house to “shop.” This might truly be the working mom/mom of 5/single mom/really any mom’s dream solution to having some amount of style without breaking the bank!
