The Best Cupcake in Baton Rouge

All this week we are tasting and judging the yummiest treats in Baton Rouge to find you the best of the bestmom (and kid) approved! For each place we tested, we considered flavor, texture/quality, kid-friendly atmosphere, service, and our overall experience. It wasn’t easy (since each place is awesome), but somebody had to do it. :)

bestcupcakeI love me a good cupcake, so when the bids were going out for this foodie project, I jumped on them as my research project. And then I was like “wait…are there any cupcake shops in Baton Rouge?” Yes! There are! Great ones, actually. I quickly got my google on, mapped out our route, and ventured out to find the best cupcake in Baton Rouge. I checked out Ambrosia, Frosted, Cupcake Allie, and Cupcake Couture. Read through to see how each one scored and who had our favorite! Here’s the scale we used from lowest to highest: :( :? :| :) :D

Ambrosia
A Baton Rouge staple, and not-so-convenient for my waistline, right around the corner from my house. I’d never had a cupcake from them, so I was excited to try it out. The first thing I noticed is how MASSIVE they are. These things are gigantic! I opted for the Italian Creme cupcake (they drew me in with that beautiful looking icing). I have to admit, I was a little under-whelmed. It was good, but it tasted a bit more like a muffin than a cupcake. But they do have that great little cafe area you can sit in and enjoy your treats, with some chocolate milk!

Frosted
Here’s another cupcake shop I didn’t know existed before I started researching! I personally am glad it’s on the LSU campus side of town, because we would be here all the time (& my pants wouldn’t fit). The shop has a very hip vibe, and is probably the biggest of the cupcake shops (Ambrosia excluded). They have big comfy chairs and lots of tables. And the cupcakes are amazing. Birthday cake again, don’t judge, and it was perfect. The cake was soft and fresh, and the icing was the perfect balance of rich but not overwhelming. And the ladies behind the counter were super sweet and helpful!

Cupcake Couture
Located in the Mall of Louisiana, this place is great on location. Run some errands and then stop off for something sweet! We got the birthday cake cupcake here, which is one of their most popular ones. The funfetti cupcake was so so good, I ate the whole thing (even though I knew we had 2 more stops). The icing was a little sweet for my taste, but I enjoyed it. The store is a little small, and everything is white, so I’m not sure how I would feel about bringing lots of little ones here.

Cupcake Allie
I have to be honest, I didn’t even know this place existed before I googled “cupcakes in Baton Rouge”, but it’s definitely a hidden gem. The actual Allie and her mother were working when I popped in for my cupcake, and they are the SWEETEST. Like, almost sweeter than their cupcakes. The store is a cute little spot, with ample places to sit and enjoy yourself. They also offer mini cupcakes, which may be a win for some mamas. We got the birthday cake cupcake here too (it’s my favorite), and it was great! In a little twist from most places, the Cupcake Allie birthday cake cupcake has chocolate icing. I die. It was rich and thick and wonderful. The cupcake itself was good too!

The Winner

I really didn’t taste a bad cupcake during our little foodie adventure, so it was rough picking a winner. And I quickly learned that cupcake people are nice! I mean, I’d probably be nice if I got to be around sweets all day… But ultimately, Frosted Cupcakes is the winner. They had all the things we were looking for with kid friendliness, great service, and even though it was a close race – the best cupcake. So, look no further for that perfect cupcake…congrats Frosted!

Do you agree? And be sure to follow us on Facebook to catch the whole series this week (like the best cookie and best donut!)
