The Big Squeezy – Confessions of a First Time Cleanser

Disclosure :: this post is sponsored by The Big Squeezy; however, all opinions stated below are our own.

Lets talk juice cleanses. They sound scary and hard and intimidating. I know, because it took me a good month or two to finally get to the point that I was ready to tackle one.

I, myself like a good ol’ challenge. It legit gets me going and does my mind and so body good. When I finished off a 30-day fitness challenge in January, I was left in the land of “meh.” Nothing new and exciting to get me pumped again. Fast forward to last week. I scrolled past a post from a friend who had been fasting for 3 days and I was really inspired. I thought to myself “I can do that! Let’s do that!” Super inspired and eager to succeed the thought of a juice cleanse crossed my mind. “Oh, yes! A juice cleanse! You got this!” And off to The Big Squeezy I went.

I popped in to the Perkins Road location, all bright eyed and bushy tailed. Ready to do this thang. The staff was amazing and so helpful. She listened to how and what I eat and suggested what cleanse to go with. She answered all of my questions and even wrote out what order and when to drink them in to ensure I succeeded. She was so great, ya’ll.

So, because this is such a scary, hard, and intimidating subject for a mom (or dad!) to even think about, I’m here to share my experience with ya! Or, confessions, if you will 😉

Day 1 – “I can do this!!”

Cue the mindset. On day 1, I was more ready than I’d ever be. I was inspired. I was determined. I WAS going to complete a 3 day cleanse.

For most of the day, I thought how easy this all seemed. All I did was stay busy and drink a juice when I felt hungry. Then dinner came. And the tables turned. I will tell you first hand that having to prepare dinner for your family, foregoing sitting at the table with them because you’re questioning your own willpower was one of the hardest things ever, for all three days.

Day 2 – “I think I can do this?”

Day 2 for me, was the biggest battle of willpower. You’ll find yourself thinking things like “It’s still early enough to throw in the towel and restart another time” and “Your almost there. Almost. Power through, you’ll be so thankful you did.” and back to “But gahhhh all I want is one bite of something.”

Day 2 was tough y’all, but so worth the hard work.

Day 3 – “Ok, I got this.”

Hallelujah! Day. Freaking. Three. You are here and I love you so much.

Day 3, as you’d assume, is when that mindset you had on day one is back, better than ever. The thought that solid food is just one more sleep away will keep you pushing through day three like a champ!

So, how exactly did I manage to complete this three day cleanse? I’ll drop a few TIPS below that helped me make it through!

  • Juice is best served ice cold. The ones that were difficult to drink, I popped in the freezer about five minutes before I drank them. This helped a ton!
  • Straws are your friend when it comes to juices you don’t necessarily love.
  • For the ones that you don’t love, hang in there! It’s crazy how our tastebuds will adapt and love them as the days go by.
  • Prepare to feed your family things you don’t like. This makes dinner easier!
  • Pass dinner duty to dad! I made my husband feed the kids while I stayed busy in the evenings, #gamechanger
  • Your not above sniffing food. Like, for real. Getting a good nice whiff of fresh cooked dinner will satisfy you more than you know
  • Social media will “all of a sudden” contain nothing but delicious food posts and images. Like, where did these come from?! ::Hint: they were always there but when you haven’t had solid food in days … ya know. :: So do yourself a favor and avoid it.
  • Sleep helps fight temptation. I made sure to go to sleep as soon as the kids were in bed. This helped me get to the next day that much sooner.

So now for #allthequestions! No doubt I got a TON of them while cleansing. I’ve answered the most asked ones below, take a look!

How do they taste: I’m a foodie and I really like all things fruit and veggie. With that being said, I really liked them! A few were “ok” but like I said, by day 2 and 3, they were so dang good.  I do think that your diet leading up to the cleanse will play a huge factor in this. So keep that in mind.

What cleanse do I choose? I would go in and talk to a TBS employee before buying your cleanse. Fill them in on your nutrition and eating habits and they can point you in the direction of the best cleanse. I went with a Level 2.

Did you stay hungry? Were you able to function?: Ok, so let me tell you this: You WILL be able to keep mom’n 😉 I did not get weak. I did not get the shakes. I was not crabby or moody or any of those things you think would come along with an “extreme diet.” The thing is, it’s not an extreme diet. You are getting what your body needs and getting rid of what it doesn’t need. Your body will be so thankful and will keep doing what it needs in return!

Did you lose weight? This one is a big question, and I totally get it! The answer is YES. I did loose weight, 8 lbs to be exact. If weight loss is your goal, don’t cleanse on that reason alone. I would highly recommend cleaning up your nutrition beforehand to set yourself up for success both during and after your cleanse.

Would you do it again? Yep! In fact, I’m on the last day of my second cleanse! Two cleanses in one week is kinda cray BUT I’m not mad about it.

How did you feel after? Y’all, this feeling is indescribable. Gut health is a big deal for me and I have never in my life felt so clean. My skin is glowing and my mind is clear. I wouldn’t mess up this “clean” feeling for anything. Also, you can’t pass up the feeling of accomplishment after this. So good for your mind.

What should I eat the day after completing? This one is a huge lesson learned for me. So on day 4, I thought I would have wanted #allthethings when in fact, I did not. My body was craving juice, like for real. All the things I typically wanted just didn’t sound good to me. I ate a “healthy” dinner on day 4: quinoa salad and some buffalo cauliflower and was SO SICK the next day. The days after, I stuck to veggies, meats and left dairy out. This was so much better on my stomach!
