It's time to stop & look in the mirror. Our mothers taught us, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." I am bothered by all the keyboard gangsters out there telling mega-churches and others what they "need" to be doing. I will point out that most of these people posting things like this are doing NOTHING themselves to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey. You know why? Because those who ARE doing something to help don't have time for any kind of finger pointing or being worried at all about what someone else is or isn't doing for them. Instead of looking for who isn't doing something you think they should be doing, start...

For the Love of Texas

I went to bed with a heavy heart last night. The word 'heavy' sounds too light in writing. I can not describe in words how I am truly feeling at this very moment. It is normal to feel angry, sad, frustrated, and anxious when watching the news these days. What is happening in Texas has me on my knees. It was a little over a year ago when I too was standing face to face with the fear of what was to come as I watched the water come closer and closer to our home. It crept up on us as if it were a predator, and we were its prey. Then it pounced. It changed my life forever. My...
We're about to get flooded with Facebook Memories. OH YOU CAN BET that pun is intended :: Facebook Memories … like it or not, here they come. _________________________________ I worked late last night and came home to a tame house and fed children. One was playing in the bath after her first day of second grade, and the other was making blasters out of Light Bright pegs near his daddy, who was folding clothes on the couch. There was music filling the room from the speaker in the kitchen, and it wasn’t necessarily a sad song but tears started to blur my vision. I'm still hoping to blame it on some sort of hormone issue but no matter the reason, the weight of...
Cracks and All {One Year after the Flood} As our new floors were being finished a little over a year ago last October, I took this picture. The larger tile square had been cracked while pulling up the carpet wooden room dividers in the living room. Jeff, who had laid our new wood-tile floors right up to the existing kitchen tile, mentioned we could just replace that one square with the missing chunk. I wanted to leave it – partly out of laziness, but mostly because of what it represented. There was something about the old and worn right next to the new that caught my attention. A year ago we flooded, and what has been a whirlwind of a year...
"Time heals all wounds." I believe this is true - for the most part. Call me impatient, but I keep waiting for this flood thing to be OVER. There are always mile markers after a tragedy or celebration. One month, six months, a year, five years... At this six month marker, I don't think I'm alone in feeling that we're still pretty much in the middle of it. According to the adage, maybe I just need more time. However, I work hard to be thankful and live in the positive, but I'm not always successful. I also realize a few things: 1. None of my family have been injured. 2. We're far luckier than some. 3. First World problems, all. It's been six months since...
