The second I feel like I’ve got a category of motherhood down, I get thrown through a loop. Either our schedule changes or my daughter hits a new phase. Motherhood is an ever-changing journey. However, I do feel like I’ve consistently had the cleanup category just short of mastered. I realized early on that how my house looks has a huge impact on my mood and patience. I care about my home feeling like a refuge, not a place where I see a huge to-do list the second I walk in the door. On the same note, I want to spend more time being home, not cleaning my home. We've gotten pretty good with efficiency around here. Here’s how: Toy Rotation I...
The home we currently live in has gone through three renovations. We just wrapped up the third, and the second largest in the house at 1,700 sq. foot. While the house looks great, there were a lot of bumps along the way. Renovating a home is not like an HGTV design show where a crew comes in to knock down a wall or two, paint goes up, you have fun with all of the finishes, and you come in under budget. It is a long, messy, stressful project that can get away from you if you let it. Get At Least 3 Bids Before Choosing a Contractor It is important to get more than one bid so that you can compare...
Hopefully by this time you aren't KonMari'ed out yet! I read the book The Magic of Tidying Up last summer and spent the last month of my summer break purging and deciding what sparked joy in our home. I know the masses were introduced to Marie Kondo at the beginning of the year with her new show on Netflix, which was right around the six month mark for us. One thing the show doesn't explain is what happens after the cameras leave. We've seen on other reality type shows that involve some type of major life overhaul, a follow up to show the viewer if they have maintained that lifestyle. Now, Marie Kondo's show doesn't offer a follow up,...
So you’ve KonMari'd your closet … heck, your whole house. NOW WHAT!? So, maybe you are of the ilk, get it all out. Donate, trash, hand-me-down, just OUT. Or maybe you think “I’ve invested a small fortune on non joy sparking items, can I recoup SOME of the temporary joy?” I fall squarely between the two, and if you are looking to resale items here are some of my favorite ways to declutter and not take a complete loss. Poshmark I have had moderate success on Poshmark, especially when selling lightly used name brand items. I have unloaded a Lo & Sons handbag, an Anthropogie bridesmaid dress, and some blouses from Gap and Banana Republic. The key is using good photos,...
I’m sure you all have heard of Marie Kondo by now. She’s written a couple of books and recently launched her Netflix original show “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo” on January 1, 2019, that is sweeping the nation. I have watched every episode and I was totally motivated to do ALL THE TIDYING. I am loving seeing friends on social media tidying their houses. Living with less is so good and more importantly, being thankful for what we have can shift our mindsets completely. Once we’ve gone through our house with the entire tidying process - what is next? What do we do with all of the things we tidied? I’d challenge you to donate and discard your excess intentionally. After...
