A Fresh Spin :: The New Rotolo’s Craft and Crust

A Fresh Spin On A Classic

Sit back, relax and enjoy the breeze! Now, that is something I can definitely get down with. After a few months of wondering what was being built on the corner of Burbank and Ben Hur road, the answer was FINALLY revealed … a new Rotolo’s restaurant, but it didn’t look like one that I had experienced so my interest was piqued. It looked rustic, open and huge! I couldn’t wait to check this new joint out. As I learned when I got there, this is a brand new concept that was rolled out as the new flagship location right here in Baton Rouge, not far from where it all began with the first restaurant in Tigerland 20 years ago. This location is the first of it’s kind — Craft & Crust — and it’s quite an authentic culinary experience involving a revamped menu that features new options like the Sicilian Pizzas and the 13-inch Stone Crafted Pizzas cooked at 600 degrees in an Italian stone deck oven. Several of these new pizzas have won international awards. The Figgy Piggy – pulled mozzarella, fig spread, prosciutto, gorgonzola, shaved asiago, oil and balsamic reduction – recently took home the gold medal during the Food Network’s “Pi Champions Challenge.” The new menu also includes a variety of salads, hot and cold sandwiches, Italian entrées and its famous calzones to satisfy all taste buds. I LOVE that Rotolo’s talented chefs make the dough from scratch, fresh daily at each location. They also take the time to craft their own sauces and hand cut fresh veggies. I personally tried the BBQ Chicken pizza with gluten-free crust, and it was uh-mazing. Not kidding.

The New Digs

The restaurant is super spacious with plenty of comfortable seating, flat screen TVs throughout plus a huge bar that has 37 beers, 2 wines and 1 cocktail on tap. WHAT? Yep, you heard that right. Not to mention there’s also a “Slice Bar.” What is that you may ask? The Slice Bar is where Rotolo’s pizza chefs will cut a pizza slice as your order, giving you the perfect amount of food to satisfy your appetite if you don’t want a whole pizza. Guests also have the option to sit on the patio complete with large windows that open, which is a MUST on a beautiful day.

Good Food and Good Vibes

I have a feeling that my family will be spending a lot of time here as we’ve already been twice! From the appetizers to the salad and pizza, our expectations were exceeded. The service was attentive and prompt which is a huge plus for me. Our whole family has enjoyed going, and we’re excited to make this one of our “go-to” spots. Grab your crew and go check it out!

Although she met her husband at an LSU game after her car broke down, they both attended Northwestern State University where she graduated with a Business Administration degree. After graduation, she and Tyler took a leap of faith and tied the knot. She dabbled in the corporate scene but eventually returned to school to pursue her passion for teaching and earned a Master’s degree in Elementary Education. She taught at an inner-city school in Baton Rouge for 3 years where she gained a family of students and colleagues alike. She’s traded in her beloved Expo pens and clipboard to stay home with her sweet and adventurous one-year-old son, Cullen. She is so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the sisterhood of fellow moms. Motherhood has been the best roller coaster she’s ever been on and even at the most challenging times, she tries to remember to embrace the chaos and “bless this mess” mentality. Ericka loves a good conversation, coffee, empowering other women {because we can all use a little encouragement}, laughing, baking and making memories with her family.
