Learn Golf With The First Tee Program

Think of the virtues you’d like your kids to learn through sports. Perseverance, confidence, integrity. These qualities are all built into the sport of golf, and BREC is the exclusive home of The First Tee program in East Baton Rouge Parish, a Learn Golf With The First Tee Programcharacter education program that uses a golf-related curriculum to build well-rounded kids.

The First Tee is a national organization that teaches young boys and girls (ages 7-18 years old) life skills through the game of golf. Upon introduction to the program, kids will learn the basics of the game, as well as the nine core values used as a foundation for learning life skills.

The First Tee’s Nine Core Values are: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy and judgment. Through golf and The First Tee’s core values, your kids and teens will learn life skills like:

  • Making proper introductions
  • Managing emotions
  • Resolving conflicts
  • Setting up step-by-step goals
  • Planning for the future
  • Appreciating diversity

By participating in The First Tee, young people are introduced to these core values which are incorporated throughout the program. Parents are then encouraged to reinforce these behaviors by talking about them, what they mean and what these behaviors can look like at home.

The First Tee coaches are trained to create positive relationships that inspire youth to discover their individual potential. Our programs help young people build confidence, develop respect and appreciate the value of giving back to our community all while learning the lifelong sport of golf. By teaming up with experts in positive youth development, The First Tee helps youth become good golfers and even better people.

Sessions include a fun, group setting for youth regardless of background or previous experience. From taking their first swing to being PGA-ready, The First Tee meets each child where they are and encourages them through the sport with hands-on training.

BREC’s First Tee program is now enrolling students for its fall season at J.S. Clark Golf Course. This fall, students will enjoy six sessions and a Saturday play day tournament, so now is the perfect time to jump in!
