July is here, and so is the heat! There are outdoor activities, fireworks, and so many other exciting things happening that you won’t want to miss. We have gathered our favorite family-friendly events in the Baton Rouge area this month and featured them here on the monthly guide.

July 2 : Celebrate the Red, White and Zoo at BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo with safari programs, games and crafts!
July 2 : Stop by Whole Foods Market for Dog Adoption: Friends of the Animals to see some adoptable pups!
July 2 : Take a short drive over to the West Feliciana Sports Park in St. Francisville for Big Chill, a celebration of America’s birthday that will feature fireworks, live music, a magician and more!
July 3 : Catch the Kenilworth Independence Day Parade and all their throws as they roll through the Kenilworth Subdivision.
July 4 : Hosted by the USS KIDD, the July 4th Spectacular will be just that! Enjoy the fireworks and other patriotic activities.
July 5 : Science is a Snap! at the Central Branch Library will let kids explore electricity as they listen to Nick and Tesla’s High Voltage Danger Lab: a mystery with electromagnets, burglar alarms, and other gadgets you can build yourself by Bob Pflugfelder, for ages 8-11.
July 8 : Sunset Paddle at BREC’s Wampold Park for a unique paddling experience. Limited availability on kayaks and paddle boards so register in advance.
July 10 : Check out The Summerland Tour at Lava Cantina for a live concert featuring Sugar Ray, Everclear and more!
July 11 : Painting and Pinot hosts Mommy and Me Painting Class for its youngest painters with mommy or daddy, and a snack is provided as well.
July 14 : Learn about the Baton Rouge Police Mounted Patrol and see their horses at the Bluebonnet Branch Library, for ages 6 and up.
July 15-16 : Swamp Pop Music Festival will offer a unique live entertainment experience at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center.
July 16 : Whole Foods Market hosts Dog Adoption: Looking Fur Love with their adorable, adoptable dogs.
July 16 : Movie at the Lagoon will show The Little Mermaid at BREC’s Liberty Lagoon out on their grassy “island area.” Get your tickets now!
July 18 : End of Summer Reading Party will include games, a spacewalk, prizes and more to celebrate the end of summer at the Central Branch Library! Check out the Library’s main site for similar events happening at a branch near you.
July 21 : Enjoy a Movie in the Park – The Good Dinosaur at BREC’s Zachary Community Park.
July 22 : The Manship Theatre presents Disney’s Aladdin Jr. Musical Camp Performance, based on the iconic animated film.
July 23 : Frozen Safari at BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo will focus on teaching what they do to promote animal wellness and will offer frozen treats!
July 27 : Enjoy an End of the Summer Reading Party with games, a spacewalk, face painting, refreshments and more at the Main Library Branch. Check out the Library’s main site for similar events happening at a branch near you.
July 28 : Cupcakes and Canvas at BREC’s Zachary Community Park will allow kids ages 5-13 to learn step-by-step instruction as they create canvas art, and each will be served a cupcake at the end.
Tuesdays & Thursdays : Twilight Tours at BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo gives you the chance to take a tram ride in the cool of the evening, enjoy an animal encounter and a snack.
Wednesdays : Be creative with Little Picassos at BREC’s Baringer Park, for ages 4-10.
Fridays : Don’t miss TGIF Movie Matinee at the Jones Creek Regional Library for a feature-length movie and refreshments.
Saturdays : Visit downtown Baton Rouge for the Red Stick Farmer’s Market to shop locally grown products and support local farmers.
