February is here, the month of love and massive amounts of Mardi Gras beads. We have gathered our favorite, family-friendly events in the Baton Rouge area this month and featured them here on a monthly guide. Whether your family prefers arts and crafts, outdoor activities or movie nights, we have something for everyone!
Februrary 3 : Valentines for Nursing Home Residents at the Main Library gives kids an opportunity to show love to elderly members of our community. Cards will be delivered to local nursing home residents.
February 5 : Krewe of Southdowns Parade rolls at 7pm in the Southdowns Neighborhood beginning on Glasgow.
February 6 : Krewe of Spanish Town Parade rolls at noon in downtown Baton Rouge beginning on Spanish Town Road.
February 6, 13, 20, 27 : Get downtown and grab some local produce at the Red Stick Farmer’s Market Walk along Main St. and be sure to stop by the kid’s booth for free tokens and activities.
February 7 : Check out First Free Sunday: Carnival Time at the KIDD for carnival themed fun, including crafts, music, food and more!
February 8 : Visit the Jones Creek Library for I’m A Mardi Gras Fan! This event features a free make and take craft for ages 2 and up.
February 9 : Preschoolers will love learning about animals at the monthly Zoo & Me Mornings: Mammal Mardi Gras. Call the Baton Rouge Zoo to register.
February 12 : Parents planning a date night can drop kids off with Parents Valentine’s Day Out at select BREC parks where they will enjoy supervised activities and games, for ages 4-12.
February 13 : Mardi Gras Mambo – 10K, 15K and Fun Run wraps up the Mardi Gras season with a fun run through downtown Baton Rouge and the Garden District.
February 15 : Celebrate Presidents’ Day with Presidents’ Day Make & Take Craft at the Central Library, for kids ages 3-7 while supplies last.
February 19 : Go on down to Bluebonnet Swamp after dark for Flashlight Night at the Swamp to explore trails, enjoy the animals and view a nature film.
February 24 : Kids and parents can create art together with Little Picassos at BREC’s Baringer Road Park.
February 26 : Join BREC at Hooper Road Park for Movie in the Park: “Minions”. Popcorn and concessions will be available for purchase.
February 28 : Don’t miss Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny presented by Mermaid Theatre of Novia Scotia for a nostalgic stage adaptation of the bedtime classic, featuring puppets and music.
February 29 : Wear your pajamas and bring snacks for the Leap Day Monday Movie Pajama Party at the Jones Creek Library. Please register.
