Thinking About Spin Class?

The idea of taking a spin class has always intrigued me, but the thought of committing 45 minutes to a hard intense workout where you’re stuck on a bike made me nervous. I mean I don’t even know how to ride a real bike so that just adds to the anticipation of the pain I’d feel the next day. But the other day I took the plunge and I am now obsessed. Here are a few things I learned from my first few classes and what you can expect when you go to yours!

Go as hard as YOU can go:

What I didn’t know going into it was that you can go at your own pace; everyone has different levels of easy and hard so being able to cater the workout to me made it much more appealing. The playlist my first night was all Maroon 5 so I feel like it was a little blessing in disguise.

Make sure your shoes are strapped in:

Making sure the strap over your shoes is as tight as it can be is SO important, especially if you don’t want to get hit in the shin while spinning.

Every instructor is different:

This may be an obvious one, but the atmosphere of the class always depends on the instructor so even if you didn’t like a certain person the first day, you may like them the next day depending on what music they choose or even what mood they are in. I guess what I’m really saying is keep an open mind.

Be prepared to be sore:

Y’all … I know people said it would hurt the next day, but no one told me how sore I’d be 2 hours later. Like still couldn’t walk straight or sit sore. But it’s that good kind of sore that makes you want to go back again and again.

Water:

Again another obvious one, but beginner me brought a 17 ounce bottle of water which was not nearly enough. It was gone by the 2nd song. So essentially I was dying, or at least it felt like it.

Now don’t get me wrong. I’m obsessed now but it’s definitely taking some getting used too. I’m sure there are things I’m missing since I’m still a newbie, but if you’re looking for an intense workout in only 45 minutes give this a try. You may surprise yourself and actually love it!
