Timeless Toys :: Classic Boredom Busters That Your Kids Will Love For Years

How many times have you bought your kids the latest and greatest toy only to have it lost in the bottom of the toy box a few days later? You look back wondering why you wasted so much money. On the other hand, there are those toys that that your kids play with for years. Here are a few toys that are sure to get a childhood worth of play!

Blocks and other building toys

Plain wooden blocks are a tried and true choice. You simply can’t go wrong with a quality set of wooden blocks. Duplos / Legos or magnetic building toys like MagnaTiles or Tegu also provide endless opportunities for building and creativity.

Dolls and stuffed animals

Sometimes I think our stuffed animals multiply on their own at night. As frustrated as I get with the sheer number of dolls and animals, these are one thing that my daughter never wants to get rid of. She’s always playing family or vet or tea party. Pretend play never ends with dolls and stuffed animals!

Cars and Trucks

From matchbox cars to dump trucks, what kid doesn’t love pushing around cars and trucks? Lining them up, hauling rocks, and having a car wash leads to hours of fun!

Kitchen and play food

This is the longest lasting toy in our family. We bought one for our daughter for her first birthday and now, at almost 6, it’s still one of her most frequently played with toys. She loves having us place orders at her restaurant or setting up a 5 course meal for her dolls.

The Radio Flyer 4-in-1 Stroll N Trike

I know that my other toy suggestions have been more general, but this particular one is more specific. The website says that it is for ages 9 months to 5 years, and that is just about how long we’ve had ours! This trike starts by letting you push then grows into a full classic trike. At this point, my daughter’s knees are bumping the handle bars but this is the one ride on toy she refuses to let me get rid of. It comes in red or pink and there is even an option to build your own with optional accessories!

Which toys have your kids loved for years?

Ashley S
Ashley grew up in Joplin, Missouri and attended the University of Arkansas where she earned a degree in Finance and Insurance. She met her husband, Jason, in Fayetteville and they have one daughter, Etta Mae. They moved to Baton Rouge in 2013 for Jason's job with the LSU Tigers. Ashley is an extroverted introvert who loves Ted Talks, following politics on Twitter, and figuring out how to get the best deals on everything without paying shipping. If it were up to her, she would get paid to read books and take every college class so that she could learn everything about everything, but instead she pays the bills by working in recruiting for a multinational tech company. Ashley is blessed to have a daughter who is at least as stubborn as she is and a husband who is laid back enough to put up with both of them.
